Two Seminole County cities finalized their upcoming budgets as uncertainty lingers around the potential impact of Amendment 3.

Leaders in Oviedo and Longwood voted Monday on millage rates for each city’s budget, which takes effect Oct. 1.

Oviedo previously considered cutting city-sponsored events and programs as a cost-saving measure, but there is currently no plan to move forward with those cuts. The proposed millage rate for Oviedo would see no increase, remaining at 5.6692 mills.

“There’s going to be a zero percent increase in the amount of money being collected by the city of Oviedo this year,” Mayor Megan Sladek said at a meeting earlier this month. “So, we are tightening our belts in response to the increasing costs.”

In Longwood, city leaders approved a 5.78% tax-rate increase over the rollback rate — though the millage will not exceed the rate set more than a decade ago. Part of the funding includes continued construction planning for Fire Station 15, water improvement projects and a 4% salary increase for non-union employees.

Leaders in both cities have raised concerns about a potential decrease in funding if Amendment 3 passes. The proposed constitutional amendment would increase the homestead exemption for a primary residence from approximately $50,000 to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028. The measure requires 60% voter approval in November to pass.
