A woman accused of shooting a storage facility manager during a dispute over a unit made her first court appearance Monday afternoon, where a judge denied her bond.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said Kandice Jo Pierce had recently rented a unit at Public Storage on Babcock Street, just north of Palm Bay Road.
Deputies say Pierce opened fire on the facility manager Saturday morning during a dispute over her unit. The employee, described by deputies as the facility manager, was shot with what appeared to be a small-caliber handgun. The injury is not believed to be life-threatening.
Pierce was arrested Sunday in front of a business on Palm Bay Road. According to the sheriff’s office, Pierce was inside the storage unit with another adult woman when the shooting happened. Investigators said they needed to locate the other woman to determine who had the firearm and fired the shot.

Florida state law prohibits the use of storage units as living spaces. Authorities say Pierce was residing in the unit when the incident occurred.
Pierce is charged with attempted first-degree premeditated murder, shooting or throwing a missile into a dwelling, vehicle, building or aircraft — an aggravated assault charge — and second-degree arson.
Pierce is scheduled to return to court Nov. 10 for this case, as well as a second, unrelated arson case.
