Poseidon’s Fury is rapidly disappearing as demolition crews tear deeper into the former attraction’s show building at Universal Islands of Adventure.
Lost Continent Demolition Update
New aerial photos from photographer bioreconstruct reveal the latest demolition progress throughout The Lost Continent. The attraction’s temple facade, which was mostly demolished in our previous update, is now completely gone.
The courtyard that once contained the ruins of a colossal Poseidon statue has been reduced to a broad field of broken concrete and other debris. The statue’s feet, trident, surrounding rockwork, themed walls, and remaining portions of the entrance facade have all been removed.
Several excavators are positioned around the former courtyard and along the exposed sides of the show building. Tracks in the dirt form a route around the structure, allowing heavy machinery to move through the demolition site.
With the facade gone, the remaining show building is visible from nearly every angle. Large sections of its exterior walls have been ripped away, exposing structural columns, catwalks, ducts, and pieces of the former attraction’s interior.
The most dramatic views look directly into the hollowed-out building. Dark walls and suspended acoustic panels remain beneath portions of the roof, while tangled framing, pipes, and other infrastructure hang from the open sides.
Crews previously demolished several of the chambers through which guests traveled during Poseidon’s Fury. More recent work exposed some of the attraction’s final show areas, including infrastructure associated with the finale’s moving walls. Those areas are now being dismantled further.
Although much of the lower structure has been destroyed, a large portion of the central roof and upper exterior walls remain standing as crews continue work on interior demolition.
Former Sindbad Theater Site
Wide aerial views show the full scale of the cleared land between Seuss Landing and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade. The former site of The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad occupies the opposite side of the construction zone from Poseidon’s Fury.
The Sindbad theater has already been completely demolished. Its footprint is now mostly graded earth, with a large mound of darker soil near the center. Construction vehicles can be seen spread across the site.
A backstage road continues to divide the two primary demolition areas. Some smaller Lost Continent structures remain between the cleared sites, while Mythos Restaurant and its waterfront rockwork are still standing along the park’s lagoon. Mythos is scheduled to close permanently in 2027.
Poseidon’s Fury opened with Universal Islands of Adventure in 1999 and closed permanently in May 2023. The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad ended its run in 2018.
Universal Orlando Resort has not announced what will replace The Lost Continent, though the removal of both major show buildings is creating a substantial development site. A recently filed construction permit naming ride-engineering company Garmendale may be connected to the project, but Universal has not confirmed that connection or revealed the land’s future theme.
