The costumes and dioramas for the upcoming reimagining of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress have been added to Walt Disney Presents at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Guests can view this display next to the live-action Ariel meet-and-greet.

In the photo above, John is shown in a yellow sweater, multi-colored turtleneck, and khaki pants. Meanwhile, Sarah is wearing a yellow and blue futuristic dress and beige pants.
A sign by John’s model reads: “As part of the reimagining, new costumes were created to reflect the time periods now being depicted in the show. Father’s costume for Act I, set in 1969, draws inspiration from his appearance in the Act IV finale of the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair Progressland show. For the new show’s Act IV, which takes place in the distant future, costumes combine future-forward materials with classic silhouettes, carrying Walt Disney’s optimistic vision of tomorrow into a new era for today’s audiences.
Meanwhile, the sign in front of the dioramas read: “Imagineers are updating ‘Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress’ with all-new scenes that will see John, Sarah, and the rest of the carousel family living in entirely new eras. Designers worked tirelessly to make sure that even the smallest details stay true to the decade being depicted. The show will feature a brand-new opening scene inspired by the 1964 television special Disneyland Goes to the World’s Fair. Through the magic of Audio-Animatronics technology, guests will step onto that soundstage with Walt Disney himself as he introduces Carousel of Progress to the world, reminding us that a beautiful tomorrow is always just a dream away.”
The picture shown on the left above reveals the reimagined vision of the future during Act 4 of the attraction, previously seen in concept art. Sarah, wearing the costume on display, sits in a chair in front of a conversation pit and fireplace.
Another model depicts John and Rover sitting in a kitchen. John is also seemingly wearing the costume that is on display, seen on the right above, although the color is a bit different.
In the photo below, concept art of the show scenes was seen on the walls of the display behind the costumes, including the kitchen, living area, and the new Act IV future scene. The new possible future scene will pay homage to the original.
This new display has replaced the Cars area, showcasing the Piston Peak National Park expansion coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom.
Carousel of Progress Update
The Carousel of Progress is closed until late spring 2027 for its biggest reimagining ever, which will shift the setting to the latter half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century.
Since its opening at the 1964 – 1965 New York World’s Fair, the Carousel of Progress has taken guests through the history of the American family beginning around the turn of the century. Though the final scene’s setting has changed over the years, the first three scenes have always taken place in the early 1900s, the 1920s, and the 1940s.
The latest iteration of the Carousel of Progress opening in 2027 will feature scenes taking place in 1969, 1985, 1999, and the distant future.
It was revealed last month that Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston will voice Mother and Father, respectively, in the update.
