We take princess dining very seriously at Disney Food Blog. I mean, what’s a trip to Disney World without dining in a castle?
One restaurant we keep finding ourselves at time and time again is Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom. This Beauty and the Beast-themed restaurant lets you dine inside Beast’s castle while he walks around and says hi to guests. It’s not a full meet and greet, but it’s super cool to see him in his element. Be Our Guest added a few new items that we had to try!
While Be Our Guest runs on a prix fixe menu, you can also add enhancements to your meal, and some items are included, and others are enhancements. The prix fixe menu costs $72 per adult and $43 for kids ages 3 to 9, but the enhancements are great to share with the table!
To start, we grabbed the Escargot de Bourgogne, braised in white wine, then baked in garlic-herb butter, and it’s one of the appetizer choices. This isn’t new, but it’s our appetizer choice for the day!
This was a hit with us! They were tender and lovingly cooked, and the white-wine garlic butter sauce was out of this world. The garlic is very forward, so make sure you love garlic. The puff pastry on top makes the dish feel special, with perfectly crunchy, cooked bites, and once you add that garlic butter sauce to the tender goodness, you’re in for a real treat. We recommend keeping your bread on the table to dip into your garlic butter because it is that good. Everything was cooked to our liking, and if you’ve been wanting to try escargot for the first time, this is a great place to start.
For our entree, we chose the Beef Bourguignon en Croute, slow-cooked in red wine with potatoes, root vegetables, smoked bacon, and bone marrow.
Don’t be intimidated! This dish was a pure comfort meal. It reminded us of late-fall and early-winter days when you really want beef stew and to hang out inside as the weather starts to cool down. We don’t always get that in Florida, but this meal puts us in the mood. The crust is well cooked, and the puff pastry is great, but it’s not the star: what’s underneath is. We know seeing a huge bone on your dish can be a lot, but don’t let it put you off. It was a great addition! We loved the tender potatoes, onions, carrots, and mushrooms, perfectly cooked down, with a hint of creaminess. We can’t wait to order this again once it gets a bit colder outside!
Now for some enhancements! For our first enhancement, we grabbed the Truffle Pomme Frites, which come with black garlic truffle aioli in parmesan, for $14.
It is so hard for us to pass up truffle fries! They were perfectly cooked, with a crispy outside and a soft inside, and just enough truffle on top that it wasn’t overpowering, plus plenty of parmesan. It’s a great side dish to share with the table, and they’re a bit rich, which was a nice addition. The sauce it came with took it to the next level, and you might find yourself asking for another side. It brought everything together, and we would order these again hands down.
We also tried the Lobster Macaroni au Gratin with sauce mornay for $14.
We were pretty dang excited for this dish, but it didn’t quite hit the spot. We think ours sat under the heater a bit too long, which made the noodles a bit too crunchy and hard to bite through. The lobster was a bit overcooked g but there weere big chunks throughout. For $14, we were a bit underwhelmed. We wanted that creamy, cheese mac and cheese with perfectly cooked lobster, and this wasn’t quite it. Since this is a new dish, we gave them the benefit of the doubt as they figure out the menu, but it wasn’t the star.
Finally, for dessert, we went with the Blooming Rose, which is filled with the grey stuff. This isn’t a new item, but we usually get it because it’s so pretty.
Isn’t it just beautiful! It’s obviously giving major Beauty and the Beast vibes, which is perfect for the restaurant. Inside, you can find the grey stuff, or cookies-and-cream-flavored mousse, which was delicious (don’t believe us? Ask the dishes!). It was creamy, and you can really taste the cookies and creaminess with the chocolate cake on the bottom. We were kinda craving another texture, like something crunchy, but it is very pretty and a dessert that many people will like.
So how are the new dishes? Pretty good! We enjoyed them all except the Lobster Mac & Cheese, but we are willing to give it another try once it’s been around a bit longer; for now, we would rather opt for the Truffle Fries. We think these are all great additions to the Be Our Guest menu, and we would choose them again in the future.
