A major natural gas leak in the area of SE 89th Court and Del Webb Boulevard in the Del Webb community was capped just before 6 P.M. on Wednesday night.

Marion County Fire Rescue has deemed the area safe.

MCFR, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, TECO, and Marion County Emergency Management responded to the scene on Wednesday afternoon.

“A crew remains on scene completing operations. Please continue to stay vigilant, remain aware of your surroundings, and use caution in the area while crews are on scene,” according to a statement on the Marion County Fire Facebook page.
