Orange County State Attorney Monique Worrell held a quarterly briefing Thursday, highlighting a 33% crime drop and dozens of drug trafficking convictions across the region.
“Crime is down. Congratulations to us,” Worrell said.
Worrell highlighted 33 drug trafficking convictions during the third quarter, including 12 fentanyl cases, eight methamphetamine cases and six cocaine trafficking cases. She emphasized her office’s approach of distinguishing between drug users and drug dealers.
“We make a conscious effort to separate those categories of people,” she said. “Our drug traffickers, for the most part, are those people who choose to earn a living by exploiting the dependency of individuals in our community who are addicted to drugs.”
One case Worrell spotlighted involved Randall Clark, a Delaney Park resident accused of dealing methamphetamines out of his home. Clark was sentenced this quarter to seven years in the Department of Corrections and $150,000 in court costs and fines.
Worrell also announced 25 new assistant state attorneys joined the office following the Florida Bar results — one of the largest incoming classes in recent memory.
“We are rebuilding,” Worrell said.
