Many companies have similar names; this is about Hurricane Roofer. It is not affiliated with other businesses such as Hurricane Roofing and Construction of Orlando.

Sabah Benkabbou says a leaking roof has left water damage spreading across her daughter’s bedroom ceiling — months after she says she paid a Kissimmee roofing company $15,000 to repair it.

“This is my daughter’s room,” Benkabbou said, pointing to the damage overhead.

She worries the ongoing leak could impact her daughter’s health.

“It’s gonna cause mildew,” Benkabbou said. “It now is becoming like a health hazard at this point.”

Water damage stretches across one side of the ceiling, and Benkabbou said it is continuing to spread. She said wind damaged part of her roof and that repairing the ceiling alone would not solve the problem.

“Even if I fix this ceiling, it’s still leaking, so no point of fixing it,” she said.

Benkabbou said Hurricane Roofer knocked on her door in 2024. She signed a work authorization allowing the company to work with her insurance carrier and repair the roof.

After waiting for insurance and homeowners association approval, Benkabbou said she gave the company a $15,000 deposit in February.

“He got the check; there was no crew,” Benkabbou said. “Every time I asked him, he was like, ‘I don’t have a crew. I don’t have a crew.’ And after that he stopped answering me.”

She said the company cashed the check months ago. Messages she shared with News 6 show repeated assurances that the work would be completed, including one message saying the company hoped to finish before storm season because crews become harder to find.

But Benkabbou said promises of “today or tomorrow” turned into weeks, then months.

“It’s been already four years,” she said of the broader roof problem. “So I wanna fix it. I wanna get it over with.”

When the company first approached her, she said, she believed it would follow through.

“He seemed very eager to do the job,” Benkabbou said. “I was like, okay, you know, the guy sounds legit.”

News 6 found that Benkabbou is not the only customer who has raised concerns about Hurricane Roofer.

The Better Business Bureau gives Hurricane Roofer an F-rating and lists 12 complaints over the past three years, 10 of which are listed as unanswered. Several complaints describe customers paying thousands of dollars up front and say roofing work never began.

State records list Hurricane Roofer as inactive

News 6 called the company, but the call went to a full voicemail box. At its last known business address, a coworking space, a receptionist said Hurricane Roofer moved out in November 2025.

Benkabbou now wants to know whether the company will complete the roof repair or return her $15,000.

Until then, she said every rainstorm is another reminder that the repair she says she paid for is still unfinished.
