Central Florida has a few more stormy afternoons ahead, but a noticeable change is coming later in the week as a cold front arrives for the weekend.

Monday & Tuesday

An upper-level low spinning over the western Florida Peninsula will continue to fuel showers and thunderstorms today and Tuesday.

With plenty of moisture in place, rain chances will run 50% to 70% each afternoon. Showers and storms will develop along the sea breeze in the early afternoon before drifting inland through the evening.

A few stronger storms will be possible, especially Monday, thanks to unusually cool temperatures higher in the atmosphere.

It will also remain hot and humid, with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s and heat indices reaching the upper 90s to near 100 degrees.

Wednesday

The pattern begins to shift Wednesday as another upper-level system drops southeast and a cool front moves into the Florida Peninsula.

Moisture will remain high, especially across southern Central Florida, so numerous showers and storms will still be possible Wednesday afternoon.

Behind the front, however, drier air will gradually filter into the area.

Thursday-Weekend

Rain chances drop significantly by Friday and into the weekend, with 20% to 40% chances expected as drier air settles in.

Northeast winds will also become breezy, especially along the coast Thursday and Friday, with some gusts reaching 20 to 25 mph and locally near 30 mph along the Volusia coast Thursday afternoon and evening.

Temperatures will finally begin to come down a few degrees, with weekend highs in the mid to upper 80s.

The bigger change may come overnight. While coastal areas stay mild in the 70s, lighter winds could allow inland temperatures to fall into the mid-to-upper 60s Saturday night into Sunday morning.
