A themed scrim has been added to The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure Park.

The Little Mermaid Exterior Refurbishment

A large printed rendition of the building’s normal exterior façade has been added as refurbishment on the structure continues. The ride continues to operate as normal behind the scrim and exterior construction walls.

The themed scrim and construction walls wrap around the building in full, with the exception of gaps at the attraction’s entrance and exit points. Teal seashell-shaped signs can be seen on the tan walls guiding guests toward the entrance.

The King Triton statue is still somewhat visible above the scrim when viewed from the south side of the building. Again, the wraparound scrim features a printed facsimile of the building from top to bottom against a light blue sky.

This treatment is similar to what we’ve seen on other façade refurbishment projects in recent years. Walt Disney World’s Haunted Mansion underwent a similar cover-up for much of the summer, though the Mansion’s scrim incorporated a high-resolution photoprint of the structure, compared to the drawn style seen here.

The temporary walls and scrim extend behind the attraction’s attached merchandise kiosk as well, seen below.

The artistic additions to the scrim coverings arrived just days after we noticed plain black scrim, construction walls, and scaffolding installed around the building.

We first reported the refurbishment news earlier this month when we first noticed the arrival of temporary walls and scrim near the attraction building’s entrance and right side.
