A semi-truck driver is dead after a fiery crash shut down all southbound lanes on Interstate 95 in Ormond Beach, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened near Mile Marker 276 in Volusia County.

According to an FHP report, a 2022 International semi-truck with double trailers had been disabled in the outside southbound lane with its hazard lights on — the result of a prior crash with a deer. A second semi-truck, a 2023 International with double trailers, was traveling southbound in the outside lane when its driver was unable to slow down for the stopped truck ahead. The front of the moving semi struck the rear of the disabled truck. The impact caused the moving semi to engulf in flames.

The driver of the moving semi was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the disabled truck was not injured and remained on scene, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.

All southbound lanes on I-95 remain closed in the area. Drivers are urged to exit and take alternative routes. Many motorists are diverting off at Old Dixie Highway as backups continue to grow.
