A Florida Highway Patrol trooper shot a hit-and-run suspect Friday night after officials said the person resisted arrest following a crash on Lakeville Road.

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. Friday after a trooper responded to a hit-and-run crash in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the suspect fled the crash scene on foot.

While at the scene, the trooper encountered the suspect, who officials said became non-compliant.

According to FHP, the trooper deployed a Taser, but the suspect continued to resist.

After several Taser deployments, officials said the suspect still resisted arrest, and the trooper fired his gun, striking the suspect.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody and taken to a local hospital.

FHP did not release the suspect’s name or condition.

The trooper was not injured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting a use-of-force investigation, which is standard protocol after an officer-involved shooting.
