Universal Studios Japan may be planning to expand the theme park located in Osaka.
This new project could total between 200 and 300 billion yen, which calculates to $1.2-$1.8 billion in U.S. dollars, per Nikkei.
According to the newspaper, the park is looking to increase the number of annual visitors, which is already 16 million. It is also set to bring in new attractions to the new space near the theme park.
If Universal goes through with the expansion, it would be the first since the park’s debut in 2001.
Nikkei also reported that Universal Japan will expand onto a former factory site that is north of the property, which is owned by Osaka. The park’s operator will reportedly sign a leasing agreement with the city’s municipal government sometime around 2028.
Universal has not yet confirmed the expansion news.
