A young man is facing charges after Ocoee police clocked him driving 100 mph on Colonial Drive.

Ocoee police posted a video on social media of the July 19 traffic stop, showing officers catching up to the speeding vehicle on a stretch of Colonial Drive where the speed limit is 45 mph. The traffic stop happened around 3 a.m.

When asked why he was speeding, the driver told officers, “We were just hungry,” and that he was heading out with a passenger to get something to eat, police said.

In the video, an officer can be heard warning the driver about the consequences of driving that fast.

“Hit a rock or have a car pull out from a plaza at that speed, and you could flip your car and die,” the officer told the driver. “It’s not worth it.”

Officers arrested the driver on charges of street racing and violating Florida’s Super Speeder Law, also known as HB 351.

The law created a criminal offense called “dangerous excessive speeding,” which applies when a driver goes at least 50 mph over the speed limit or reaches 100 mph or more in a way that threatens people or property nearby. Under HB 351, excessive speeding is an arrestable offense, in addition to any applicable fines.
