Central Florida is bracing for a much windier weekend, with gusts reaching 30–45 mph and dangerous beach conditions expected to worsen along the coast.
Waves could build as high as 7–15 feet, bringing a high risk of rip currents, significant beach erosion and coastal flooding.
Windy Weather
Northeast winds will increase today, reaching 15–20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, especially along the coast. Winds strengthen further Saturday and Sunday, with sustained speeds of 20–25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph possible.
Wind Advisories will likely be needed for parts of Central Florida, and gusty conditions could continue into early next week.
Coastal Hazards
Rough surf and a high risk of rip currents will persist at all Central Florida Atlantic beaches. Breaking waves could reach 7–15 feet this weekend into early next week, leading to moderate to major beach erosion and minor to moderate coastal flooding. High tides could make conditions even more hazardous.
High Surf and Small Craft Advisories may also be needed.
Rain Chances
Onshore winds will also bring periods of speedy showers through the weekend and into early next week (20-30%). Coastal areas have the best chance of rain, with repeated rounds of showers potentially causing minor flooding in spots. Inland rain chances will be lower.
Temperature Trend
Highs will stay seasonable in the upper 70s to low 80s, with overnight temperatures mainly in the 60s.
